My passion has always been gardens. Two years ago, I decided to follow my heart and do a Diploma in Garden Design, in which I achieved a Distinction.
After a 20 year career as an architect and construction manager, I now have my own garden design business and have the commitment, experience and knowledge to help anyone, with any size garden.
So how did I get from architecture to garden design? Well, after qualifying
as an architect in 1985, I spent 8 years practising, mainly in the
residential sector. There was a brief pause while I spent 6 months
fulfilling a long-held ambition of travelling the world, before embarking on
a Masters in Construction Management at Reading University. This led to 4
years at Balfour Beatty where, amongst many projects, I worked with Norman
Foster at Imperial College.
In 1999 I had another change of direction. I joined the corporate world as ‘client representative’ for design and construction for Cisco systems and Microsoft, where I worked across many countries on a wide variety of projects.
So, what have 20 years spent variously as an architect, Construction and Design Manager taught me? Well, because I’ve been ‘the client’, I know exactly how important to is to be clear on a client’s needs, and to deliver what they want. And obviously it’s given me a wealth of experience on the technical side, too.
I’d love to help you achieve the garden of your dreams –
take a look at some of the work I’ve done so far.
